Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. The supporters of Lanston United booed when Sunderland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Harry Hayes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Den Coates was a little too slow when Francis Pointon got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 35th minute. The score was now 2-0. Francis Pointon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Francis Pointon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Kirk Noble stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kirk Noble in the 82nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Basil Delamore prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Francis Pointon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 86 minutes into the match, Lanston United's goal looked a bit too open when Francis Pointon came free, but Den Coates reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 90th minute, Harry Hayes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Den Coates was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. After a rather tough play, Sunderland's Edward Griffin got a free kick in the 92nd minute.
