In the 17th minute Charlie Frost shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joel Longden saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 20 minutes into the match, Walthamstow United's Ash Rathmell sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Micheal Hurst narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Andy Hilditch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Blackpool United's zone, Ash Rathmell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Micheal Hurst came out of the goal and Ash Rathmell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ash Rathmell might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Micheal Hurst. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ash Rathmell ran back to his position shaking his head. After 34 played minutes Blackpool United got a freekick which was hit by Sean Trunks. Ashley Titmuss was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 35th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Walthamstow United's Ash Rathmell slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Micheal Hurst. That made the score 1-1 after 39 minutes of play. Tod Garner received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Joel Longden tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Joel Longden showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tod Garner, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Andy Hilditch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

After a rather tough play, Walthamstow United's Julian Marsden got a free kick in the 74th minute. Blackpool United's Philip Askew shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 75th minute of play. Micheal Hurst showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ash Rathmell in the 79th minute of the match. Blackpool United's Micheal Hurst played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andy Hilditch in the 80th minute of play. Blackpool United's Tod Garner got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Walthamstow United's Joel Longden got control of the ball when Tod Garner tried to sneak it across the goal line. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Blackpool United walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
