Southport AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eddie Renwick was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 13th minute Miles Wilkes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alex Styles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 14th minute, Johnnie Mellon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Sol Coulshaw had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alex Styles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eddie Renwick in the 22nd minute of the match. Southport AFC's Zaq Worth proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Southport AFC from getting a goal against them. Shirley Village's Jason Brooke got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Southport AFC's Seb Hart got a free kick in the 29th minute. Alex Styles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eddie Renwick in the 33rd minute of the match. Miles Wilkes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jason Brooke scored 1-0 in the 37th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Zaq Worth, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Ted Duckworth fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zaq Worth having to interfere. In the 44thth minute of the game Jason Brooke who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Southport AFC's Zaq Worth was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a little luck, Southport AFC's Zaq Worth got control of the ball when Ted Duckworth tried to sneak it across the goal line. Tony Martin kicked well hit freekick during the 48th minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jason Brooke to make the kick off. After 54 minutes, Sol Coulshaw mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Southport AFC and the Shirley Village players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Southport AFC getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Sol Coulshaw hit a great ball. Southport AFC's Zaq Worth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jason Brooke in the 59th minute of play. Jason Brooke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zaq Worth having to interfere. Alex Styles made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Eddie Renwick sent off a good shot on target. Shirley Village's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Miles Wilkes 68 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-1. When Jason Brooke came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Shirley Village fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jason Brooke couldn't finish the play. Jason Brooke might have been able to make a better finish in the 75th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Zaq Worth. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jason Brooke ran back to his position shaking his head. 82 minutes into the match, Shirley Village's goalkeeper Alex Styles had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eddie Renwick. Alex Styles made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Miles Wilkes sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Southport AFC booed when Shirley Village was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luke English didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eddie Renwick received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Alex Styles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Zaq Worth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ted Duckworth in the 90th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jason Brooke in the 92nd minute of play forced Southport AFC's goalkeeper Zaq Worth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
