In the 5th minute, Leon Charie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 6 minutes into the match, Will Corrigan dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Rhys Hopgood, 1-0. In the 11th minute, one of Huyton AFC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Huyton AFC. The goalkeeper, Rhys Hopgood, was totally fooled by Moseley City's Dave King, who 13 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Lennie Butterfield fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Howard Faith having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Will Corrigan got free with Rhys Hopgood in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rhys Hopgood showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rex Metcalf in the 25th minute of the match. Howard Faith took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lennie Butterfield, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Moseley City's Rex Metcalf was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 29th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Rhys Hopgood made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rex Metcalf in the 33rd minute of play. Leon Charie kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Lennie Butterfield made a kick off. Huyton AFC were awarded a corner in the 55th minute after Moseley City's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Beinn Pinder took the corner. Beinn Pinder made a great header on Huyton AFC's corner, it was just that Moseley City's Howard Faith managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 73rd minute Rex Metcalf shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rhys Hopgood saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When David Haskell fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Moseley City's protests and gave David Haskell a yellow card for diving instead. If Rex Metcalf had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lennie Butterfield in the 97th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Howard Faith prevented the ball from getting in the gole. For all the effort they put into the match, the Huyton AFC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Moseley City.
