George Scargills short, quick shot in the 21stth minute got Gerry Louis to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Tommy Mulligan struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Gerry Louis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Widnes. Gerry Louis made an important save on a dangerous shot by George Scargill in the 27th minute. After a rather tough play, The Real Saints's Rio Best got a free kick in the 31st minute. With a little luck, The Real Saints's Gerry Louis got control of the ball when George Scargill tried to sneak it across the goal line. The Real Saints's Gerry Louis proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 34th minute of the match, managed to save The Real Saints from getting a goal against them. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bruce Kyle to make the kick off. 51 minutes into the game, Jake Beckham recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Gordon Naylor. Gerry Louis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tommy Mulligan in the 61st minute of the match.
