Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Bruce Kyle kicked off to start the match. Matt Musgrove in the 3rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Gordon Naylor, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. The nice shot from Matt Musgrove in the 10thth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Gordon Naylor had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. Widnes's Gordon Naylor proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 11th minute of the match, managed to save Widnes from getting a goal against them. Manchester united FC's Matt Musgrove got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Matt Musgrove could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Gordon Naylor made a huge save. 28 minutes into the match, Widnes's goal looked a bit too open when Michael Bull came free, but Gordon Naylor reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gordon Naylor didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Matt Musgrove went, in the 29th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. Gordon Naylor stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kasey Sheehan's shot from short distance in the 33rd minute. Drew Bryden showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from George Scargill in the 38th minute of the match. A collision led to Manchester united FC getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Michael Bull hit a great ball. Kasey Sheehan might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gordon Naylor. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kasey Sheehan ran back to his position shaking his head. Matt Musgrove fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gordon Naylor having to interfere. Gordon Naylor came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by Manchester united FC's Matt Musgrove. But to his dismay, Matt Musgrove quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Gordon Naylor made an important save on a dangerous shot by Matt Musgrove in the 49th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Kasey Sheehan to strike the kick off in the second half. Gordon Naylor showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Matt Musgrove in the 54th minute of the match. Manchester united FC's Drew Bryden proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 58th minute of the match, managed to save Manchester united FC from getting a goal against them. 59 minutes into the game, Tommy Mulligan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Widnes's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Manchester united FC the free kick. Kasey Sheehan's late challenge caught a Widnes's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kasey Sheehan helped the player get up and apologised. After 61 played minutes Manchester united FC got a freekick which was hit by Kasey Sheehan. In the 66th minute of the match Manchester united FC got a corner. Widnes's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Peter Le Tissier ran over to the corner to take the kick. Gordon Bagshaw was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Kasey Sheehan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gordon Naylor having to interfere. In the 72nd minute Kasey Sheehan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gordon Naylor saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Manchester united FC booed when Widnes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leon Pearson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tommy Mulligan kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. A hard and well directed shot from Peter Le Tissier led 74 minutes into the game to a goal after the ball had bounced deceptively just in front of the goal. Widnes's Gordon Naylor became a little unsure and couldn't grip the ball before it was over the goalline. Thus it was 4-0. When Widnes's Bruce Kyle in the 78th minute got a chance for a shot 78th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The audience was convinced that Kasey Sheehan's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gordon Naylor was relentless in the 85th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kasey Sheehan in the 91st minute of play forced Widnes's goalkeeper Gordon Naylor to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Matt Musgrove fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Manchester united FC's protests and gave Matt Musgrove a yellow card for diving instead. In the 98th minute, Dave Cotterill hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Manchester united FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
