After a defensive mix-up in Brompton FC's zone, Bruce Kyle stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Iain Layfield came out of the goal and Bruce Kyle tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bruce Kyle received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. When George Scargill came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Widnes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that George Scargill couldn't finish the play. George Scargill recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. But to his dismay, Bruce Kyle quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. When the match clock showed 71 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Vinnie Blythe sped through Widnes's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Gordon Naylor. When Widnes's George Scargill in the 79th minute got a chance for a shot 79th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Brompton FC's goalie prevented a goal. Adam Holloway got his second yellow card in the match during the 80th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. The supporters of Widnes booed when Brompton FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adam Holloway didn't get a good kick on the ball. Iain Layfield made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from George Scargill in the 85th minute of play. David Barratt charged in rather forcefully in the 85th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down.
