The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 12 played minutes Widnes got a freekick which was hit by Reuben Hehir. Andrew Hicks took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gordon Naylor. Gordon Naylor dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Oliver Knight took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 18th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Brandon Patterson. Wallsend's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Steven Tubbs's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gordon Naylor read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Andrew Hicks fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gordon Naylor having to interfere. In the 35th minute, one of Widnes:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Widnes. 41 minutes into the match, Widnes's George Scargill sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Brandon Patterson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The supporters of Widnes booed when Wallsend was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Shane Creighton didn't get a good kick on the ball. Widnes's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Oliver Knight in the 45th minute. The corner led to Widnes's Keanu Waite getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Steven Tubbs made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bruce Kyle in the 53rd minute of play forced Wallsend's goalkeeper Brandon Patterson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Brandon Patterson made an important save on a dangerous shot by George Scargill in the 62nd minute. A collision led to Wallsend getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Shane Creighton hit a great ball. 65 minutes into the match, George Scargill notched a goal, 2-3, to the right of Wallsend's Brandon Patterson. Brandon Patterson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Louie Ely fell near the penalty area in the 69th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wallsend's protests and gave Louie Ely a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 69th minute of the game. One of Wallsend:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Widnes:s goal. Oliver Knight placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Louis Barton during the 74th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Wallsend's Louis Barton got a free kick in the 74th minute. After 77 played minutes Widnes got a freekick which was hit by Tommy Mulligan. Wallsend's Basil Golding couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 78th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Widnes. In the 80th minute Steven Tubbs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gordon Naylor saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Andrew Hicks sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Andrew Hicks blasted a shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gordon Naylor having to make a save. 85 minutes into the match, Steven Tubbs notched a goal, 3-3, to the right of Widnes's Gordon Naylor. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
