An unexpectedly hard shot by Jeffrey Gough in the 4th minute of play forced Paignton's goalkeeper Lennie Alderson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Paignton's Lennie Alderson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Harvey Taylor in the 6th minute of play. marks gate fc's Barry Ridsdale played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stuart Wilson in the 10th minute of play. Marty Lincoln's late challenge caught a marks gate fc's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marty Lincoln helped the player get up and apologised. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Harvey Taylor in the 25th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lennie Alderson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 27 minutes of play Paignton's Marty Lincoln was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Marty Lincoln hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jeffrey Gough in the 29th minute of play forced Paignton's goalkeeper Lennie Alderson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Paignton getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Freddy Chapman hit a great ball. In the 35th minute, Jeffrey Gough got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 38th minute, Denzil Holmes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Harvey Taylor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lennie Alderson having to interfere. After 43 played minutes marks gate fc got a freekick which was hit by Dean Rundle. Ritchie Lappin charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ritchie Lappin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 47th minute, Ritchie Lappin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Freddy Chapman to make the kick off. Jeffrey Gough succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-2 in the 52nd playminute. With an all-out effort, marks gate fc's Lennie Alderson threw himself towards the right post 55 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Harvey Taylor, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 58 minutes into the game, Stuart Wilson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Paignton's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave marks gate fc the free kick. Stuart Wilson hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. In the 59th minute, Ged Battersby sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Paignton's Lennie Alderson didn't even have to move. If Jeffrey Gough had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Harvey Taylor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Lennie Alderson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Freddy Chapman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Barry Ridsdale tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Freddy Chapman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in marks gate fc's zone, Freddy Chapman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Barry Ridsdale came out of the goal and Freddy Chapman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 87 minutes into the game, marks gate fc's Denzil Holmes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Lennie Alderson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. 94 minutes into the match, Paignton's goalkeeper Lennie Alderson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jeffrey Gough. When Freddy Chapman came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Paignton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Freddy Chapman couldn't finish the play. marks gate fc played a much better game than Paignton and deserved their victory. The Paignton players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
