An unexpectedly hard shot by Pierre Cuss in the 11th minute of play forced Whitchurch's goalkeeper Nicky Titmuss to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 12th minute Glyn Oliver shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicky Titmuss saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Rich Bailey fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Horsham's protests and gave Rich Bailey a yellow card for diving instead. Rich Bailey kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. Whitchurch's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Martyn Shilton in the 18th minute. The corner led Whitchurch's Martyn Shilton to fire away a dangerous shot which Ashley Broadhurst despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 21 minutes into the match, Whitchurch's goal looked a bit too open when Glyn Oliver came free, but Nicky Titmuss reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 24 minutes, Glyn Oliver managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Horsham's supporters crossed their fingers, but Glyn Oliver was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Barry Nailor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee gave Horsham a penalty, 30 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Reggie Waple, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Whitchurch's Nicky Titmuss. 0-2. Whitchurch's Liam Yorke got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Liam Yorke received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Ashley Broadhurst tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Liam Yorke's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 37thth minute, Ashley Broadhurst skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Glyn Oliver sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Barry Nailor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Nicky Titmuss tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Glyn Oliver fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicky Titmuss having to interfere. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Leon Knowles stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When the match had gone on for 52 minutes, Glyn Oliver took a quick shot and it went in 0-3 without a chance for Nicky Titmuss to make any attempt to save it. John Paul Collier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicky Titmuss having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Leon Knowles managed to get in a good position for a shot. Whitchurch's supporters rose to their feet, but Leon Knowles was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ashley Broadhurst breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Barry Nailor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Nicky Titmuss tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 72nd minute, Barry Nailor got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Barry Nailor couldn't finish the play. Nicky Titmuss was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Glyn Oliver showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-4 in the 95 minute of play.
