Martyn Kay fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Warren Darling having to interfere. Conan Wright's late challenge caught a EmiratesFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Conan Wright helped the player get up and apologised. In the 13th minute, Conan Wright hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Isaac Naylor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Martyn Kay had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 22 minutes into the match, EmiratesFC's goal looked a bit too open when Danny Dawes came free, but Brad Barrow reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Barrie Wardell fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored EmiratesFC's protests and gave Barrie Wardell a yellow card for diving instead. After 32 played minutes EmiratesFC got a freekick which was hit by Barrie Wardell. Warren Darling showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Isaac Naylor, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. 43 minutes into the match, Ely FC's Chesney Dunning sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Brad Barrow narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Martyn Kay fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Warren Darling having to interfere.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Isaac Naylor stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute of the match, Chesney Dunning tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Brad Barrow saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Danny Dawes struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Brad Barrow didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ely FC. Chesney Dunning sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Martyn Kay in the 60th minute of play forced Ely FC's goalkeeper Warren Darling to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
