An unexpectedly hard shot by George Atkinson in the 7th minute of play forced Helsby's goalkeeper Sacha Dlyan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. George Atkinson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mark Revell charged in rather forcefully in the 9th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mark Revell the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Helsby getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Mark Revell hit a great ball. Sly Dixon struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Neil Crane didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Helsby. Neil Crane showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfred Banks, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. 23 minutes into the game, Sly Dixon was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Helsby's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave A.F.C Bournemouth the free kick. After a rather tough play, Helsby's Sly Dixon got a free kick in the 24th minute. Sacha Dlyan made a fantastic save in the 27th minute, when Max Tomlin sent off a good shot on target. Sacha Dlyan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of George Atkinson's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling George Atkinson in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sacha Dlyan prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If George Atkinson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when George Atkinson made the kick off in the second half. After having played for 52 minutes, Max Tomlin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. A.F.C Bournemouth's supporters crossed their fingers, but Max Tomlin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sacha Dlyan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Max Tomlin in the 54th minute of the match. Max Tomlin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sacha Dlyan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from George Atkinson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 62nd minute, George Atkinson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sacha Dlyan was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. In the 68th match minute, Helsby was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Garry Holland to maneuver through the defense. Alfred Banks sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Neil Crane was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Sly Dixon showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 74 minute of play.
