Spectators: 6704 (Terracing: 5704, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Portchester's Austin Humphreys started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lennie Cummins during the 3rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Horwich United booed when Portchester was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lennie Cummins didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gareth Glanvill received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Donny Rose tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Leigh McCartney recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match had gone on for 15 minutes, Austin Humphreys took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Larry Wybrow to make any attempt to save it. In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Donny Rose stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gareth Glanvill's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. Leigh McCartney received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Donny Rose tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Donny Rose took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gareth Glanvill, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 28 minutes into the match, Leigh McCartney notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Portchester's Donny Rose. Donny Rose was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Peter Westlake sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Leigh McCartney fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donny Rose having to interfere. 37 minutes into the game, Leroy Baxter was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Portchester's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Horwich United the free kick. 40 minutes into the game, Horwich United's Gareth Glanvill nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Donny Rose made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. In the 45th minute, Peter Westlake hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gareth Glanvill stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Larry Wybrow took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bob Hislop, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gareth Glanvill recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Portchester's Donny Rose proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 55th minute of the match, managed to save Portchester from getting a goal against them. In the 56th minute the ball was on its way in behind Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Leigh McCartney had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 64 minutes into the match, Horwich United's Leigh McCartney sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Donny Rose narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 69th minute of the match, Leigh McCartney got a very nice opportunity to score, but Donny Rose was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Donny Rose stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gareth Glanvill's shot from short distance in the 70th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Gareth Glanvill managed to get in a good position for a shot. Horwich United's supporters rose to their feet, but Gareth Glanvill was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Donny Rose breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Leigh McCartney sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Horwich United's Gareth Glanvill in the 89th minute got a chance for a shot 89th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Portchester's goalie prevented a goal. The supporters of Horwich United booed when Portchester was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oliver Street didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Portchester fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Horwich United were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
