Archie Davey charged in rather forcefully in the 4th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Archie Davey the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 8 minutes of play, Horwich United's Leigh McCartney made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Junior Baldwin was left in no man's land by his defense there! 12 minutes into the match, Jonathan Shaw had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Larry Wybrow. Horwich United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jonathan Shaw was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Horwich United's Archie Davey got his second yellow card of the match in the 15th minute. The referee ordered Archie Davey off the ground. Archie Davey kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. Johnnie Matthews received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Larry Wybrow tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jonathan Shaw sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jonathan Shaw succeeded in the game's 22nd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-2. When Tom Trotter came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Horwich United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tom Trotter couldn't finish the play. If Leigh McCartney had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 33 minutes into the match, Calverley's goalkeeper Junior Baldwin had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Shaun Thompson. Leigh McCartney came free with the goalkeeper in the 38th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Junior Baldwin could save by the left post. Leigh McCartney fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Junior Baldwin having to interfere. Leigh McCartney in the 47thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Junior Baldwin, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save.

In the 54th minute, Gareth Glanvill ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Junior Baldwin was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. After a defensive mix-up in Calverley's zone, Gareth Glanvill stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Junior Baldwin came out of the goal and Gareth Glanvill tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 69th minute, Jon Couch ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Junior Baldwin was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2. If Gareth Glanvill had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Leigh McCartney sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 93rd minute, Cliff Lagdon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Junior Baldwin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dave Sheldon in the 94th minute of play. In the 95th minute Leigh McCartney shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Junior Baldwin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Horwich United were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Calverley for a fine match.
