The audience thought a goal was coming when Leigh McCartney got free with Howard Noble in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Newton Green Rovers's Howard Noble proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Newton Green Rovers from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Doug Salt in the 15th minute of play forced Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 17 minutes into the match, Newton Green Rovers's goal looked a bit too open when Gareth Glanvill came free, but Howard Noble reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Larry Wybrow showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Doug Salt in the 23rd minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Horwich United's Archie Davey slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Howard Noble. That made the score 1-0 after 25 minutes of play. 35 minutes into the game, Shaun Thompson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Horwich United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Newton Green Rovers the free kick. A collision led to Horwich United getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Shaun Thompson hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Doug Salt in the 39th minute of play forced Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Howard Noble made an important save on a dangerous shot by Leigh McCartney in the 41st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mickey Kessler in the 43rd minute of play forced Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 45th minute, Wágner Lucas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dave Sheldon took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 46th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Howard Noble. But to his dismay, Leigh McCartney quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 58th minute, Leigh McCartney managed to get in a good position for a shot. Horwich United's supporters rose to their feet, but Leigh McCartney was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Howard Noble breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 59 minutes into the match, Newton Green Rovers's goal looked a bit too open when Archie Davey came free, but Howard Noble reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Howard Noble showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gareth Glanvill, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Leigh McCartney received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Howard Noble tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gareth Glanvill in the 66th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Howard Noble prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Larry Wybrow stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Doug Salt's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. Howard Noble showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leigh McCartney, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Jon Couch hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. Chesney Halliday kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. When Horwich United's Jon Couch in the 76th minute got a chance for a shot 76th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 90th minute, Mickey Kessler left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Newton Green Rovers fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. 94 minutes into the match, Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mickey Kessler. After 95 minutes of play, Newton Green Rovers's Mickey Kessler made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Larry Wybrow was left in no man's land by his defense there! The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
