Oscar Sweeney made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Michael Broom in the 15th minute of play. In the 16th minute, Wayne Francis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luke Kirkpatrick struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Lance La Forte didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grantham Town FC. 21 minutes into the match, Gerry Chivers notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of AFC Raleigh's Lance La Forte. Lance La Forte was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Grantham Town FC's Oscar Sweeney proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 24th minute of the match, managed to save Grantham Town FC from getting a goal against them. Grantham Town FC's Luke Kirkpatrick got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dominic Clemence got free with Oscar Sweeney in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 27th minute, Dominic Clemence reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Oscar Sweeney. The goal made the score 1-1. If Rio Locke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind AFC Raleigh's goalkeeper Lance La Forte, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Lance La Forte showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luke Kirkpatrick, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Michael Broom was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Luke Kirkpatrick ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lance La Forte was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. A collision led to AFC Raleigh getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Michael Broom hit a great ball. In the 60th match minute, Grantham Town FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gerry Chivers to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Luke Kirkpatrick managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grantham Town FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Luke Kirkpatrick was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lance La Forte breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Rio Locke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Joshua Jobling had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luke Kirkpatrick fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lance La Forte having to interfere. In the 81st play minute Rio Locke came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Lance La Forte. 1-4. Luke Kirkpatrick sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 86th minute, Charlie Devaney hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luke Kirkpatrick could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Lance La Forte made a huge save. Rio Locke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Gerry Chivers came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the Grantham Town FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gerry Chivers couldn't finish the play. When the match was over Grantham Town FC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than AFC Raleigh throughout the match.
