A collision led to Academy Team getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Lawrence Burrows hit a great ball. In the 8th minute, Ruben Croyden hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Will Perryman during the 10th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Huddersfield FC booed when Academy Team was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. In a very dangerous position, a player in Academy Team fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 12th minute. Penalty! In the 19th minute of the match Brendon Eubank sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but James Hotte skillfully saved the ball. Derek Pitt took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised James Hotte. James Hotte dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Derek Pitt struck a weak shot in the 25th minute. James Hotte didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Huddersfield FC. The supporters of Huddersfield FC booed when Academy Team was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sonny Ferrell didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gez Hold hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. 37 minutes into the game, Cliff Reynolds was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Huddersfield FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Academy Team the free kick. James Hotte made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Charles Gunn in the 45th minute of play.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Charlie Hanson to strike the kick off in the second half. If Derek Pitt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 52nd match minute, Academy Team was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ruben Croyden to maneuver through the defense. James Hotte took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Charles Gunn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Academy Team's zone, Charles Gunn stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. James Hotte came out of the goal and Charles Gunn tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Huddersfield FC's Derek Pitt in the 63rd minute got a chance for a shot 63rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Academy Team's goalie prevented a goal. Derek Pitt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without James Hotte having to interfere. Mark Draper was extremely unlucky when he, in the 71st minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. In the 72nd match minute, Huddersfield FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Craig Butterfield to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that Charles Gunn's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but James Hotte was relentless in the 76th minute of the game.
