Derek Pitt succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 15th playminute. Pete Halford stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sebastien Steadman's shot from short distance in the 20th minute. Harleston's Reg Christensen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Charles Gunn in the 29th minute of play. In the 31st minute Huddersfield FC were awarded a corner. Todd Whittaker went to the cornerflag to take it. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Derek Pitt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Huddersfield FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Derek Pitt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Reg Christensen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 36 minutes into the match, Huddersfield FC's goal looked a bit too open when Sebastien Steadman came free, but Pete Halford reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Eddy Boyd stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Francis Routledge fell near the penalty area in the 50th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Harleston's protests and gave Francis Routledge a yellow card for diving instead. Francis Routledge kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Huddersfield FC had won after a very even match.
