The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rupert Beadle during the 18th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Kimpton reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zane Thompson in the 29th minute of play forced Kimpton's goalkeeper Jeremy Pickard to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Kimpton's Jeremy Pickard got control of the ball when Laurence Murtagh tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 32nd minute Zane Thompson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeremy Pickard saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 33rd minute, Budleigh Salterton's Laurence Murtagh dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. Sid Renton charged in rather forcefully in the 36th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Sid Renton the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 54th minute, Felix Newlyn made a precise shot to the right of Ray Alsford. Budleigh Salterton's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. The supporters of Kimpton booed when Budleigh Salterton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carl Beckford didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ray Alsford made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Newlyn in the 59th minute. Jeremy Pickard didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Laurence Murtagh went, in the 90th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-4 was the resulting score. The Kimpton supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Kimpton would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
