Todd Rose made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Devon Bale in the 4th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Surbiton 17's zone, Walter Gray stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Richard Purvis came out of the goal and Walter Gray tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Surbiton 17's Devon Bale in the 11th minute got a chance for a shot 11th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye United FC's goalie prevented a goal. In the 13th minute, Surbiton 17's Devon Bale dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. The supporters of United FC booed when Surbiton 17 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dom Middlewood didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Liam Harding during the 30th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Surbiton 17 getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Liam Harding hit a great ball. Walter Gray received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Richard Purvis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Richard Purvis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from John Stockton, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Richard Purvis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Craig Billington, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 43rd match minute, Surbiton 17 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Devon Bale to maneuver through the defense. Walter Gray scored 1-1 in the 45th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Richard Purvis, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Craig Billington made the kick off in the second half. Richard Purvis stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Craig Billington's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. Richard Purvis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Craig Billington in the 54th minute of the match. United FC's Todd Rose played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Devon Bale in the 60th minute of play. In the 64th minute Craig Billington shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Purvis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Devon Bale charged in rather forcefully in the 65th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Devon Bale the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Devon Bale hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Alfred Beavan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Richard Purvis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. United FC's John Stockton suffered a concussion after 69 minutes and had to leave the field. Jamie Niven's late challenge caught a United FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jamie Niven helped the player get up and apologised. United FC's Barry Goodfellow was substituted for John Stockton. A collision led to Surbiton 17 getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Jamie Niven hit a great ball. Alfred Beavan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Richard Purvis made a huge save. When Walter Gray fell near the penalty area in the 82nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored United FC's protests and gave Walter Gray a yellow card for diving instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dom Middlewood in the 91st minute of play forced United FC's goalkeeper Todd Rose to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the United FC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
