Alf Broadhursts short, quick shot in the 44thth minute got Richard Purvis to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rhys Rain to make the kick off. 57 minutes into the game, Nottingham Forest's Sebastian Cummings nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Richard Purvis made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. If Denzil Prendergast had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Benjamin Carragher fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Surbiton 17's protests and gave Benjamin Carragher a yellow card for diving instead.
