Woolton
Spectators: 8033 (Terracing: 6025,
Seating: 1848, VIP seats: 160) Woolton's Andre Cavanagh started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Leroy Floyd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Duncan Draper in the 5th minute of play. 6 minutes into the match, Woolton's goal looked a bit too open when Gwyn Wybrow came free, but Leroy Floyd reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 7th minute Dane Beaver shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leroy Floyd saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Owen Wilberforce managed to get in a good position for a shot. Woolton's supporters rose to their feet, but Owen Wilberforce was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. George Green breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Leroy Floyd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gwyn Wybrow in the 12th minute of play. After some careless play in the Runcorn defense, Owen Wilberforce kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of George Green. The Runcorn fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that George Green should have stopped the shot. Andre Cavanagh struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. George Green didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Woolton. Leroy Floyd showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Duncan Draper in the 22nd minute of the match. When Jacob Shuttleworth fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Woolton's protests and gave Jacob Shuttleworth a yellow card for diving instead. Runcorn made a substitution. Rufus Button replaced Fraser Westlake. In the 24th match minute, Woolton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jacob Shuttleworth to maneuver through the defense. Leroy Floyd showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gwyn Wybrow, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Owen Wilberforces short, quick shot in the 27thth minute got George Green to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 29th minute, Woolton's Andre Cavanagh ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind George Green. George Green yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. George Green made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andre Cavanagh in the 32nd minute of play. After some careless play in the Woolton defense, Gwyn Wybrow kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Leroy Floyd. The Woolton fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leroy Floyd should have stopped the shot. 43 minutes into the match, Rufus Button notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Woolton's Leroy Floyd. Leroy Floyd was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Leroy Floyd showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Duncan Draper, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-2.
After a rather tough play, Woolton's Andre Cavanagh got a free kick in the 52nd minute. 55 minutes into the match, Runcorn's goal looked a bit too open when Jacob Shuttleworth came free, but George Green reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 56th minute, Owen Wilberforce left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Woolton fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-2. In the 60th minute, Jacob Shuttleworth ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. George Green was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-2. In the 66th minute, Andre Cavanagh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Leroy Floyd was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Duncan Draper. Leroy Floyd was a little too slow when Rufus Button got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 69th minute. The score was now 5-3. Rufus Button could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 72nd minute of the match, but Leroy Floyd made a huge save. Runcorn's George Green played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andre Cavanagh in the 73rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rufus Button in the 76th minute of play forced Woolton's goalkeeper Leroy Floyd to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Leroy Floyd was out of position in the 77 minute of play, and Duncan Draper capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Duncan Draper really showed his touch with that goal: 5-4. 83 minutes into the match, Runcorn's goal looked a bit too open when Andre Cavanagh came free, but George Green reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 85 minutes into the match, Owen Wilberforce notched a goal, 6-4, to the right of Runcorn's George Green. George Green was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 89thth minute of the game Owen Wilberforce who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Runcorn's George Green was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 94th minute Owen Wilberforce shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but George Green saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 95th minute, Jacob Shuttleworth left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Woolton fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-4. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Woolton fans cheered their team off the field, for while Runcorn had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
