Appleshaw Park
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Trev Lydiate started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Warren Golding received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 5th minute. Marty Newbury tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marty Newbury showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trev Lydiate, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Marty Newbury took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Trev Lydiate, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bruce Letheren hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. When the match had gone on for 18 minutes, Trev Lydiate took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Marty Newbury to make any attempt to save it. Matthew Potter could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Marty Newbury made a huge save. In the 22nd minute, Appleshaw FC's Trev Lydiate ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Marty Newbury. Marty Newbury yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. Sonny Copsey charged in rather forcefully in the 25th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Sonny Copsey the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Barnham booed when Appleshaw FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sonny Copsey didn't get a good kick on the ball. Trev Lydiate charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Trev Lydiate the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Appleshaw FC getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Trev Lydiate hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Danny Fawcett during the 32nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Danny Fawcett hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Marty Newbury showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Trev Lydiate in the 37th minute of the match. Appleshaw FC's Dale Hough played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sid Bedford in the 39th minute of play. After 44 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Barnham! Af the end of the first half the score was 3-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sean Millman to make the kick off. Sid Bedford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Dale Hough tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marty Newbury showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Danny Fawcett, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. With 56 minutes on the clock, Alf Whitmore commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Barnham fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 56th minute. Penalty! After 59 played minutes Barnham got a freekick which was hit by Ron Ball. Charles Dalton's long shot made the audience stand up and applaude when it rumbled by Marty Newbury on his right side and into the goal. 60 minutes into the game it was 4-0. In the 68th minute, Sid Bedford got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Danny Fawcett blasted a shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marty Newbury having to make a save. Barnham's Marty Newbury played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trev Lydiate in the 74th minute of play. After some careless play in the Barnham defense, Warren Golding kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marty Newbury. The Barnham fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marty Newbury should have stopped the shot. After 78 played minutes, Appleshaw FC's Dom Jewson shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Marty Newbury came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Appleshaw FC reached it. After 80 minutes, Matthew Potter mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Appleshaw FC and the Barnham players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Barnham booed when Appleshaw FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matthew Potter didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sid Bedford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dale Hough having to interfere. 84 minutes into the match, Barnham's goal looked a bit too open when Trev Lydiate came free, but Marty Newbury reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sid Bedford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Dale Hough tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Barnham's Marty Newbury played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trev Lydiate in the 87th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sid Bedford in the 90th minute of play forced Appleshaw FC's goalkeeper Dale Hough to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Appleshaw FC's Dale Hough played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reuben Cornish in the 91st minute of play. In the 96thth minute of the game Sid Bedford who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Appleshaw FC's Dale Hough was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Appleshaw FC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Barnham for a fine match.
