Match Report

Seating: 1830, VIP seats: 158) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Tommy Clarkson kicked off to start the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronny Reddington in the 2nd minute of play forced Beverley Saints F.C.'s goalkeeper Stuart Sawyer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Tommy Clarkson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Beverley Saints F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Tommy Clarkson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kris Patten breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 6th minute, Samuel Evans left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Beverley Saints F.C. fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Ronny Reddington scored 1-1 in the 11th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Stuart Sawyer, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Ronny Reddington recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 16th match minute, Beverley Saints F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Colin Stone to maneuver through the defense. In the 20th minute, Beverley Saints F.C.'s Tommy Clarkson dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-1. Ronny Reddington received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Stuart Sawyer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Beverley Saints F.C.'s zone, Ronny Reddington stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Stuart Sawyer came out of the goal and Ronny Reddington tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Marek Newman fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wombwell United's protests and gave Marek Newman a yellow card for diving instead. After 29 played minutes Wombwell United got a freekick which was hit by Marek Newman. Ronny Reddington might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Stuart Sawyer. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ronny Reddington ran back to his position shaking his head. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Colin Stone during the 32nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 34th minute, Ronny Reddington made a precise shot to the right of Stuart Sawyer. Beverley Saints F.C.'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. After 37 minutes, Ronny Reddington made it 2-3 with a short kick to the right side. Beverley Saints F.C.'s Stuart Sawyer tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Wombwell United's Vernon Rushmere got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Ronny Reddington had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Kris Blueman came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Wombwell United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kris Blueman couldn't finish the play. In the 44th match minute, Beverley Saints F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ritchie Gale to maneuver through the defense. 47 minutes into the match, Wombwell United's goal looked a bit too open when Tommy Clarkson came free, but Kris Patten reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 2-3 lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ronny Reddington to make the kick off. Ronny Reddington who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 52ndth minute tested the skills of Stuart Sawyer when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Samuel Evans had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Beverley Saints F.C.'s Stuart Sawyer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronny Reddington in the 69th minute of play. In the 71st match minute, Beverley Saints F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Travis McGrath to maneuver through the defense. The long shot by Rick Salmon in the 72nd minute really tested Stuart Sawyer's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Stuart Sawyer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronny Reddington, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 75 minutes into the match, Beverley Saints F.C.'s Tommy Clarkson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Kris Patten narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The supporters of Beverley Saints F.C. booed when Wombwell United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kris Blueman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tommy Clarkson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 80 minutes, Tommy Clarkson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Beverley Saints F.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Tommy Clarkson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Stuart Sawyer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronny Reddington, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Jerry Knight-Percival had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jerry Knight-Percival received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Stuart Sawyer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Stuart Sawyer stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ronny Reddington's shot from short distance in the 91st minute. The supporters of Wombwell United booed when Beverley Saints F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ritchie Gale didn't get a good kick on the ball. Stuart Sawyer made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ronny Reddington in the 93rd minute. In the 95th minute, Wombwell United's Jerry Knight-Percival ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Stuart Sawyer. Stuart Sawyer yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-6. The Beverley Saints F.C. fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Wombwell United were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
