The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 20th match minute, Kidmore End City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Johnny Younger to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frank Hallam in the 23rd minute of play forced Kidmore End City's goalkeeper Carl Frampton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 1-2 became the score in the 28th minute when Nathanial Ottaway elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Kidmore End City's Carl Frampton proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save Kidmore End City from getting a goal against them. Carl Frampton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brian Pool in the 43rd minute of play. 44 minutes into the match, Nathanial Ottaway had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Marty Borrowdale. Alton's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nathanial Ottaway was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-3. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kris Fowler during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Frank Hallam in the 63rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carl Frampton saved Kidmore End City from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Kidmore End City's zone, Frank Hallam stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carl Frampton came out of the goal and Frank Hallam tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Edward Haxby hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. After 70 played minutes Kidmore End City got a freekick which was hit by Glenn McGurk. Carl Frampton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brian Pool in the 73rd minute of the match. Fitz Sledge kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. Kidmore End City's Carl Frampton played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frank Hallam in the 85th minute of play. If Rowan Scorfield had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Kidmore End City supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Kidmore End City would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
