But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Benjamin Caton couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kristopher Pack in the 23rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Grant Rooney saved Evolution from getting behind. In the 24th minute, Rueben Rockey hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Kristopher Pack had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 31 played minutes Evolution got a freekick which was hit by Rowan Sharpe. Viking Rovers's Phil Guest played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trevor Fairbank in the 34th minute of play. Phil Guest took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Trevor Fairbank, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kristopher Pack in the 39th minute of play forced Evolution's goalkeeper Grant Rooney to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benjamin Caton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Grant Rooney having to interfere. When Evolution's Trevor Fairbank in the 48th minute got a chance for a shot 48th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Viking Rovers's goalie prevented a goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Kristopher Pack made a kick off. Kristopher Pack received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Grant Rooney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Evolution booed when Viking Rovers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ian Pointon didn't get a good kick on the ball. A hard shot 59 in the game by Trevor Fairbank from a close distance when the talented Phil Guest managed to make a qualified save. Viking Rovers's players were relieved. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Kristopher Pack managed to get in a good position for a shot. Viking Rovers's supporters rose to their feet, but Kristopher Pack was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Grant Rooney breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Benjamin Caton in the 71st minute of play forced Evolution's goalkeeper Grant Rooney to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 72 minutes, Glen Baxter mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Viking Rovers and the Evolution players grew even worse after the yellow card. Evolution made a substitution. Ruben Bowler replaced Trevor Fairbank. Rowan Sharpe scored 0-1 in the 86th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Phil Guest, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Viking Rovers's Benjamin Caton got a free kick in the 89th minute. Phil Guest showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ruben Bowler, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. A collision led to Viking Rovers getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Sean Jewson hit a great ball. 97 minutes into the game, Chesney Stonehouse recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Phil Guest. Chesney Stonehouse showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-2. The Viking Rovers supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Evolution's performance. The match ended with a win for Evolution.
