Whitworth's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Huddersfield FC the free kick. After 3 played minutes Whitworth got a freekick which was hit by Martyn Merrill. Marty Higginson struck a weak shot in the 5th minute. Iain Armstrong didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Huddersfield FC. Iain Armstrong made a fantastic save in the 8th minute, when Marty Higginson sent off a good shot on target. After 9 played minutes Whitworth got a freekick which was hit by Leroy Deakin. Iain Armstrong made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Roy Gower sent off a good shot on target. Jeremy Haley charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jeremy Haley the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 15th minute of the game. One of Huddersfield FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Whitworth:s goal. Dom Cullen had in the 17thth minute some difficulties stopping Rupert Ingram's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Leroy Deakin's late challenge caught a Huddersfield FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Leroy Deakin helped the player get up and apologised. Leroy Deakin hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. In the 35th minute, Rupert Varley ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Dom Cullen was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Nial Clough hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. When Marc Byfield fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Huddersfield FC's protests and gave Marc Byfield a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Huddersfield FC getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Marc Byfield hit a great ball.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tom Leighton made a kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Marty Higginson notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Whitworth's Iain Armstrong. Iain Armstrong was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Grant Basterfield took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 57th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Iain Armstrong. Whitworth's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Tom Leighton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Dom Cullen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice moves Rupert Varley could shoot a difficult shot in the 62nd minute, which Dom Cullen however easily saved by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marty Higginson in the 63rd minute of play forced Whitworth's goalkeeper Iain Armstrong to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Marty Higginson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Huddersfield FC's Dom Cullen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tom Leighton in the 67th minute of play. 70 minutes into the match, Roy Gower had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Iain Armstrong. Whitworth's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Roy Gower was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. 87 minutes into the game, Roy Gower was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Huddersfield FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Whitworth the free kick. The supporters of Whitworth booed when Huddersfield FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roy Gower didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tom Leighton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Dom Cullen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dom Cullen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tom Leighton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee ended the match the Huddersfield FC players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
