Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ralph Burley in the 3rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Iain Armstrong prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Adrian Grainger showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rupert Varley in the 9th minute of the match. John Harkin who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 14thth minute tested the skills of Iain Armstrong when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When Leroy Deakin fell near the penalty area in the 14th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Whitworth's protests and gave Leroy Deakin a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Whitworth getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Leroy Deakin hit a great ball. After 21 minutes, Huey Hay mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Barnetby Le Wold and the Whitworth players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 22nd minute, Huey Hay hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 24 minutes into the match, Tom Leighton had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Adrian Grainger. Barnetby Le Wold's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tom Leighton was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 28th minute of the game. One of Barnetby Le Wold:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Whitworth:s goal. When Chip Mowlem fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Barnetby Le Wold's protests and gave Chip Mowlem a yellow card for diving instead. After 32 played minutes Barnetby Le Wold got a freekick which was hit by Chip Mowlem. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tom Leighton in the 35th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Adrian Grainger saved Barnetby Le Wold from getting behind. 41 minutes into the match, Barnetby Le Wold's goal looked a bit too open when Tom Leighton came free, but Adrian Grainger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 46 minutes into the match, Whitworth's goalkeeper Iain Armstrong had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ralph Burley. Ralph Burley was extremely unlucky when he, in the 48th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. After the first half Whitworth were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tom Leighton made a kick off. Barnetby Le Wold's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Tom Leighton 54 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-3. Barnetby Le Wold's Adrian Grainger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tom Leighton in the 58th minute of play. Iain Armstrong stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dane Holdroyd's shot from short distance in the 61st minute. The referee ignored Whitworth's protests and gave Tom Leighton a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Barnetby Le Wold booed when Whitworth was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tom Leighton didn't get a good kick on the ball. Iain Armstrong made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralph Burley in the 78th minute of play. 79 minutes into the match, Whitworth's goal looked a bit too open when John Harkin came free, but Iain Armstrong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nial Clough charged in rather forcefully in the 83rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nial Clough the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play.
