Spectators: 6500 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1500, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Nicky Wicks started the match with the kick off. Jools Merrill kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. A hard shot by Tristram Perkins from long distance, 5 minutes into the match, got Kris Le Tissier's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. A collision led to Rochester United getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Julian Wilson hit a great ball. The supporters of Rochester United booed when Swanage was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vance Ingham didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kris Le Tissier was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Julian Wilson. Louis Summerfield struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Kris Le Tissier didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Rochester United. If Louis Summerfield had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot 28 in the game by Karl Millman from a close distance when the talented Kris Le Tissier managed to make a qualified save. Swanage's players were relieved. In the 28th minute, Nicky Wicks hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Rochester United's Tristram Perkins got a free kick in the 33rd minute. In the 34th match minute, Swanage was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chip Todd to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Rochester United's Felix Rouse got a free kick in the 36th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Rochester United's zone, Jools Merrill stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alec Legzdins came out of the goal and Jools Merrill tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rochester United's Julian Wilson shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 41st minute of play. The shot was stopped by Kris Le Tissier but with some difficulty. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Karl Millman made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Rochester United getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Julian Wilson hit a great ball. 57 minutes into the game, Tristram Perkins was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Rochester United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Swanage the free kick. Tristram Perkins hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. Swanage's Kris Le Tissier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Karl Millman in the 73rd minute of play. Tristram Perkins received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Kris Le Tissier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Louis Summerfield recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jools Merrill hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. After 77 played minutes, Rochester United's Deon Perryman shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Kris Le Tissier came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Rochester United reached it. In the 78th match minute, Rochester United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Karl Millman to maneuver through the defense. Nicky Wicks fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alec Legzdins having to interfere. 82 minutes into the game, Nicky Wicks recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Alec Legzdins. Nicky Wicks showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. Kris Le Tissier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Karl Millman, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
