When Rupert Boothroyd fell near the penalty area in the 38th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Darwen's protests and gave Rupert Boothroyd a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Darwen's Rupert Boothroyd got a free kick in the 38th minute. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Carlisle United's goalkeeper Rufus Marchant, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
