Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Brendon Winstanley got the match started through his kick off. After some careless play in the Carlisle United defense, Ty Turnbull kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rufus Marchant. The Carlisle United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rufus Marchant should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronnie Hylton in the 6th minute of play forced Darwen's goalkeeper Brendon Edworthy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 8 minutes into the game, Darwen's Brendon Winstanley nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rufus Marchant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. In the 14th minute, Donald Hellen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 17 minutes of play, Darwen's Ty Turnbull made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Rufus Marchant was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 20 played minutes Darwen got a freekick which was hit by Ed Kenworthy. After 21 minutes of play, Carlisle United's Donald Hellen made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Brendon Edworthy was left in no man's land by his defense there! Brendon Winstanley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 31stth minute of the game Brendon Winstanley who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Carlisle United's Rufus Marchant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ronnie Hylton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Brendon Edworthy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 38 played minutes Carlisle United got a freekick which was hit by Johnathon Hamilton. Rufus Marchant made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Ty Turnbull sent off a good shot on target. Rufus Marchant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Brendon Winstanley's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. A collision led to Carlisle United getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Freddy Blacknell hit a great ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Ronnie Hylton made the kick off in the second half. Denzil Connell kicked well hit freekick during the 50th minute of the match. Brendon Edworthy showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ronnie Hylton in the 53rd minute of the match. In the 56th minute Darwen were awarded a corner. Denzil Connell went to the cornerflag to take it. Denzil Connell made a great header on Darwen's corner, it was just that Carlisle United's Rufus Marchant managed to reach the ball for a save. Brendon Winstanley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rufus Marchant having to interfere. Ronnie Hylton struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Brendon Edworthy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Carlisle United. Darwen's Brendon Winstanley managed to work through Carlisle United's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ty Turnbull couldn't finish the play. Ty Turnbull's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rufus Marchant read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Carlisle United's zone, Ed Kenworthy stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rufus Marchant came out of the goal and Ed Kenworthy tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Brendon Winstanley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Rufus Marchant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Johnathon Hamilton hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Darwen fully deserved thier win.
