In the 17th minute Carl Downes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Danny Halloran saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mick Fletcher hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. The supporters of The Tigers booed when Laindon FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ralph Rutherford didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Carl Downes in the 25th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Danny Halloran prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Carl Downes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 30th minute, Carl Downes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The The Tigers fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-6. Owen Noble scored 0-7 in the 34th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Danny Halloran, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 37 minutes, Carl Downes made it 0-8 with a short kick to the right side. Laindon FC's Danny Halloran tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Danny Halloran showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tyrone Meehan in the 41st minute of the match. Frankie Brookes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danny Halloran having to interfere. Carl Downes had several of the Laindon FC's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 51 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-9 score and a disappointed Danny Halloran as he didn't even see the shot coming. When the match clock showed 56 minutes, the score became 0-10 when Carl Downes sped through Laindon FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Danny Halloran. The Tigers's Phil Clarke was substituted for Frankie Brookes. Tyrone Meehan received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Danny Halloran came out and tried to block the shot, but Tyrone Meehan slotted it home off the left post making it 0-11 in the 60th minute. Owen Noble recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 90 minutes, Carl Downes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. The Tigers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carl Downes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 92 minutes into the match, Kelvin Atherton notched a goal, 0-16, to the right of Laindon FC's Danny Halloran. Danny Halloran was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Carl Downes managed to get in a good position for a shot. The Tigers's supporters rose to their feet, but Carl Downes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Danny Halloran breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
