But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Youcef Zaoui couldn't finish the play. Ammar Chaib showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zine-Eddine Bensaïd in the 29th minute of the match. If Haggi Boulebda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Youcef Zaoui managed to get in a good position for a shot. Shepshed City's supporters rose to their feet, but Youcef Zaoui was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ammar Chaib breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Aras Abbes's late challenge caught a Barnard Castle's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aras Abbes helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Shepshed City getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Aras Abbes hit a great ball. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ishak Benboudaoud to make the kick off. Zine-Eddine Bensaïd received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Ammar Chaib tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 82nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Barnard Castle's goalkeeper Ammar Chaib, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Abdelmoumène Haddadj took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 85th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ammar Chaib. Barnard Castle's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.
