The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. From close distance Wassim Achoui pressed in the 1-0 goal high up into nets stiches in the right cross 5 minutes into the game. Mokhtar Fari received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Tijani Abdenouz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Souad Choaïb hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. In the 21st minute, Bazga Liegeon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Said Bougherra blasted a shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Sammy Nasri having to make a save. When Said Bougherra came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Hull AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Said Bougherra couldn't finish the play. Alston United's Sammy Nasri played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aydril Fanon in the 38th minute of play. 41 minutes into the match, Said Bougherra had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sammy Nasri. Alston United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Said Bougherra was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Tijani Abdenouz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mokhtar Fari in the 45th minute of the match. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mokhtar Fari stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Wassim Achoui had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tijani Abdenouz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mokhtar Fari in the 83rd minute of play. When Souad Choaïb fell near the penalty area in the 90th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Alston United's protests and gave Souad Choaïb a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Hull AFC booed when Alston United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Souad Choaïb didn't get a good kick on the ball. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
