Bassi Bentifour kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. Newcastle's Zahid Saïfi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Djamil Ayad in the 18th minute of play. Zahid Saïfi didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Chabane Sandjak went, in the 20th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. Mareks Hamšík struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Nadir Ahmed didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newcastle. Djamil Ayad recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 30th minute, Newcastle's Mareks Hamšík dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-3. In the 33rd minute, Djamil Ayad got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Espérance Algérienne's zone, Mareks Hamšík stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nadir Ahmed came out of the goal and Mareks Hamšík tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Zahid Saïfi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mokhtar Segni in the 38th minute of the match. Espérance Algérienne's Nadir Ahmed proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 42nd minute of the match, managed to save Espérance Algérienne from getting a goal against them. Newcastle's Sid Ahmed Fadhil was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Nadir Ahmed in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 47 minutes into the game, Chabane Sandjak cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-4. Zahid Saïfi was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The Newcastle players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Espérance Algérienne were winning 2-4.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Djamil Ayad stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Zahid Saïfi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Djamil Ayad in the 52nd minute of play. In the 55th minute, Chabane Sandjak reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Zahid Saïfi. The goal made the score 2-5. Zahid Saïfi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Djamil Ayad, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mareks Hamšík's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nadir Ahmed read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. Nadir Ahmed stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mareks Hamšík's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. 68 minutes into the match, Newcastle's goalkeeper Zahid Saïfi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mokhtar Segni. 70 minutes into the match, Chabane Sandjak notched a goal, 2-7, to the right of Newcastle's Zahid Saïfi. Zahid Saïfi was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Espérance Algérienne's Mokhtar Segni got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 74 played minutes, Espérance Algérienne's Saïf Khadra shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Zahid Saïfi came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Espérance Algérienne reached it. 83 minutes into the game, Mareks Hamšík cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-8. Nadir Ahmed was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 88 minutes into the match, Newcastle's goalkeeper Zahid Saïfi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Chabane Sandjak. Newcastle's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Djamil Ayad 94 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 3-9.
