Cubo Verde's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luís Serineu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Tadeu Gonçalves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marílio Pepetela showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Serineu, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. The supporters of Cubo Verde booed when West Drayton FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo Mantorras didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a left leg Marílio Pepetela saved West Drayton FC from getting behind. Alda Da Costa didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alda Sampaio went, in the 43rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Alda Da Costa was out of position in the 46 minute of play, and Toni Amado capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Toni Amado really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luís Serineu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute, Pedro Areosa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 62nd minute, Alda Sampaio made a precise shot to the right of Alda Da Costa. Cubo Verde's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. In the 66th minute, Paulo Gonçalves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Tadeu Gonçalves managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cubo Verde's supporters rose to their feet, but Tadeu Gonçalves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luís Serineu got free with Marílio Pepetela in the 97th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cubo Verde's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
