When the match had been going on for 19 minutes, Vlakfontein's Timothy Inguana got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Daniel Dube. In the 33rd minute Etienne Mayoyo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gordon Mabele saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vlakfontein's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Papfontein the free kick. The supporters of FC Papfontein booed when Vlakfontein was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hoadley Tau didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Etienne Mayoyo in the 46th minute of play forced Vlakfontein's goalkeeper Gordon Mabele to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
