The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute, Embotyi's Anton Mandla dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. After some careless play in the Embotyi defense, Nick Kanku kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Maseti Etafia. The Embotyi fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Maseti Etafia should have stopped the shot. The audience was convinced that Anton Mandla's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vuyo Wanani was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. Gordon Josephs sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. FC May's Nick Kanku got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nick Kanku received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Maseti Etafia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 27th minute, Lazarus Mufumadi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 30 minutes, Andre Mkhonza mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Embotyi and the FC May players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 30th match minute, Embotyi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andre Mkhonza to maneuver through the defense. Nick Kanku fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Maseti Etafia having to interfere. In the 35th minute Nick Kanku shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Maseti Etafia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nick Kanku sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Maseti Etafia made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Nick Kanku sent off a good shot on target. Lazarus Mufumadi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Maseti Etafia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Embotyi's Thomas Arendse got a free kick in the 59th minute. Nick Kanku could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Maseti Etafia made a huge save. When Anton Mandla came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Embotyi fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Anton Mandla couldn't finish the play. If Lazarus Mufumadi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gordon Josephs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Vuyo Wanani tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Despite being the better team, FC May failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
