Spectators: 6938 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1938, VIP seats: 0) Aubrey Thobejane made the kick off and thus started the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Akil Shongwe managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Magogeni's supporters rose to their feet, but Akil Shongwe was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ricky Arendse breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jonas Serage could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 5th minute of the match, but Ricky Arendse made a huge save. The referee showed Fuzile Shoba the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of FC Magogeni booed when FC Phoenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fuzile Shoba didn't get a good kick on the ball. FC Magogeni's Andre Mufadi was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Ricky Arendse in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 12th minute, Mthunzi Takalani hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Andre Mufadi missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 17 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Ricky Arendse right hand side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aubrey Thobejane in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Maseti Mncube prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Akil Shongwe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricky Arendse having to interfere. In the 27th minute, Freddie Klaasens hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Maseti Mncube came out of the goal and Aubrey Thobejane tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ricky Arendse showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Akil Shongwe, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Akil Shongwe kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ricky Arendse. That made the score 1-0 in the 42 minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in FC Magogeni's zone, Aubrey Thobejane stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Maseti Mncube came out of the goal and Aubrey Thobejane tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Akil Shongwe made a kick off. If Stanton Laher had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. FC Phoenix's Ricky Arendse played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Akil Shongwe in the 59th minute of play. Henry Thebe was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 73rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Stanton Laher received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Maseti Mncube tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
