The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Mthunzi Shoba hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. Harry Mayoyo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 9th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Harry Mayoyo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 18th minute of the match, Aubrey Nauseb tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Hlamane Mandela saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 19 minutes into the match, Santos FC Cape Town's Rob Mandla sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nicholas Magakula narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rob Mandla recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Santos FC Cape Town's Harry Mayoyo got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Mawetu Nomvete sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Mawetu Nomvete could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Hlamane Mandela made a huge save. Nicholas Magakula showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rob Mandla, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. When Aubrey Nauseb came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Silver Stars fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aubrey Nauseb couldn't finish the play. In the 40th match minute, Santos FC Cape Town was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Harry Mayoyo to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the Silver Stars defense, Harry Mayoyo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nicholas Magakula. The Silver Stars fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nicholas Magakula should have stopped the shot. With his leg Hlamane Mandela managed to avoid a goal in the 48thth minute, when Silver Stars's Mawetu Nomvete fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rob Mandla was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Silver Stars's Aubrey Nauseb got a free kick in the 51st minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mawetu Nomvete in the 59th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hlamane Mandela saved Santos FC Cape Town from getting behind. Nick Machete blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Hlamane Mandela having to make a save. In the 76th minute, Nick Machete got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Santos FC Cape Town's Harry Mayoyo got a free kick in the 79th minute. Mawetu Nomvete recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 84 minutes into the game, Silver Stars's Mawetu Nomvete nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hlamane Mandela made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Nick Machete received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Hlamane Mandela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Silver Stars's Nicholas Magakula proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 96th minute of the match, managed to save Silver Stars from getting a goal against them. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
