To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 14th minute of the match Dušan Samet shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Branislav Janovský showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. A collision led to FK Púchov getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Miroslav Feja hit a great ball. When Marián Hanigovský fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Demjata's protests and gave Marián Hanigovský a yellow card for diving instead. With 20 minutes on the clock, Dušan Samet commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Demjata fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 20th minute. Penalty! Róbert Škrteľ hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. After having played for 27 minutes, Bohdan Čambal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Demjata's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bohdan Čambal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bohdan Čambal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Tibor Pivarči had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 40 minutes, Tibor Pivarči managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Demjata's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tibor Pivarči was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Branislav Janovský came out of the goal in the 46th minute to try and stop a shot by Demjata's Tibor Pivarči. But to his dismay, Tibor Pivarči quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 54th minute, Dušan Pribula hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bohdan Čambal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Branislav Janovský made an important save on a dangerous shot by Bohdan Čambal in the 70th minute. After 78 minutes, Matej Ščerbák mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Demjata and the FK Púchov players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 78 played minutes Demjata got a freekick which was hit by Matej Ščerbák. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bohdan Čambal got free with Branislav Janovský in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Matej Ščerbák had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. FK Púchov's Branislav Janovský proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 95th minute of the match, managed to save FK Púchov from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in FK Púchov's zone, Mikuláš Jankech stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Branislav Janovský came out of the goal and Mikuláš Jankech tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
