The audience was convinced that Leander Jamšek's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Suvad Kušar was relentless in the 4th minute of the game. 5 minutes into the match, NK Maribor's goal looked a bit too open when Ćazim Gaberšek came free, but Suvad Kušar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Leander Jamšek fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Suvad Kušar having to interfere. In the 8th match minute, NK Maribor was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Berni Vasle to maneuver through the defense. 10 minutes into the match, Ćazim Gaberšek notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of NK Maribor's Suvad Kušar. Suvad Kušar was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Venčeslav Poteko during the 12th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Venčeslav Poteko hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Suvad Kušar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ćazim Gaberšek, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 16 played minutes NK Maribor got a freekick which was hit by Quirinus Jelnikar. Ćazim Gaberšek's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Suvad Kušar read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. After 20 minutes of play, NK Maribor's Karim Pratneker made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Egidio Vidrgar was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ćazim Gaberšek fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Suvad Kušar having to interfere. NK Maribor's Suvad Kušar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leander Jamšek in the 32nd minute of play. In the 43rd minute, NK Maribor's Karim Pratneker dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Leander Jamšek made the kick off in the second half. Ćazim Gaberšek fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Suvad Kušar having to interfere. 54 minutes into the match, NK Maribor's Venčeslav Poteko sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Egidio Vidrgar narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Through an outstanding action, after 56 minutes, Suvad Kušar successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Karim Pratneker received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Egidio Vidrgar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Ćazim Gaberšek came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Velike Lašče fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ćazim Gaberšek couldn't finish the play. Egidio Vidrgar came out of the goal in the 70th minute to try and stop a shot by NK Maribor's Venčeslav Poteko. But to his dismay, Venčeslav Poteko quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. Vladimir Jelnikar hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. After 80 played minutes Velike Lašče got a freekick which was hit by Dagmar Pezdir. In the 81st minute, Miodrag Lovrec hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Velike Lašče's zone, Venčeslav Poteko stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Egidio Vidrgar came out of the goal and Venčeslav Poteko tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Venčeslav Poteko received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Egidio Vidrgar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 90 minutes into the match, Venčeslav Poteko had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Egidio Vidrgar. Velike Lašče's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Venčeslav Poteko was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-1. In the 97th minute, Dagmar Pezdir hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The NK Maribor fans cheered their team off the field, for while Velike Lašče had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
