The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Timotej Štrajhar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mirko Erjavec's shot from short distance in the 6th minute. Mirko Erjavec sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Ervin Kruh fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored NK Debenec's protests and gave Ervin Kruh a yellow card for diving instead. After 9 played minutes NK Debenec got a freekick which was hit by Ervin Kruh. Timotej Štrajhar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Senad Kalamar's shot from short distance in the 11th minute. NK Debenec's Timotej Štrajhar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mirko Erjavec in the 13th minute of play. In the 15th minute Senad Kalamar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Timotej Štrajhar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 15th match minute, NK Debenec was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ervin Kruh to maneuver through the defense. Mirko Erjavec received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Timotej Štrajhar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 24 minutes, Senad Kalamar made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. NK Debenec's Timotej Štrajhar tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. NK Debenec's Janez Krajnc was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 31st play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. In the 38th minute Senad Kalamar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Timotej Štrajhar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in NK Debenec's zone, Senad Kalamar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Timotej Štrajhar came out of the goal and Senad Kalamar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Senad Kalamar to make the kick off. Timotej Štrajhar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Senad Kalamar, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Ervin Kruh hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Mirko Erjavec who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 53rdth minute tested the skills of Timotej Štrajhar when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 55th minute, Mirko Erjavec hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Onur Azim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Janez Krajnc, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Bem Guček blasted a shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Timotej Štrajhar having to make a save. 67 minutes in the game, Senad Kalamar dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in NK Debenec's zone, Mirko Erjavec stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Timotej Štrajhar came out of the goal and Mirko Erjavec tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Senad Kalamar in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Timotej Štrajhar saved NK Debenec from getting behind. After some careless play in the NK Debenec defense, Mirko Erjavec kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Timotej Štrajhar. The NK Debenec fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Timotej Štrajhar should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dražan Belšak in the 81st minute of play forced NK Brežice's goalkeeper Onur Azim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alan Železnik took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 84th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Onur Azim. NK Brežice's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Janez Krajnc's late challenge caught a NK Brežice's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Janez Krajnc helped the player get up and apologised. Janez Krajnc hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match. After having played for 95 minutes, Janez Krajnc managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. NK Debenec's supporters crossed their fingers, but Janez Krajnc was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. NK Brežice had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
