After having played for 12 minutes, Stig-Ove Hermansson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Västerås IK's supporters crossed their fingers, but Stig-Ove Hermansson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Västerås IK's Sivert Runeberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leif Hamnberg in the 15th minute of play. Sivert Runeberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Peter Telin, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Karl-Åke Vase in the 17th minute of play forced Västerås IK's goalkeeper Sivert Runeberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Peter Telin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sivert Runeberg read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. 20 minutes into the game, Peter Telin cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Sivert Runeberg was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
