After a defensive mix-up in Lima IK's zone, Herman Melin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ingemar Gustafsson came out of the goal and Herman Melin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Tommy Stensson came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Sundbyberg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tommy Stensson couldn't finish the play. Björn Hasselqvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erland Falkrans in the 46th minute of play. When Herman Melin fell near the penalty area in the 48th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sundbyberg's protests and gave Herman Melin a yellow card for diving instead. Herman Melin kicked well hit freekick during the 48th minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

52 minutes into the game, Tommy Stensson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sundbyberg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lima IK the free kick. In the 53rd match minute, Sundbyberg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tommy Stensson to maneuver through the defense. Sundbyberg had played much better football throughout.
