An unexpectedly hard shot by Lars-Erik Abrahamsson in the 3rd minute of play forced Malmö FF's goalkeeper Stig-Arne Bivall to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Kent Stålman in the 4th play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Stig-Arne Bivall kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 1-0 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. Joacim Näfver struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Jan-Olof Salqvist didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Malmö FF. Mattias Lind's late challenge caught a Mullhyttan BF's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mattias Lind helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Malmö FF getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Mattias Lind hit a great ball. In the 19th minute Tord Hansson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jan-Olof Salqvist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Malmö FF's Stig-Arne Bivall got control of the ball when Bror Mossberg tried to sneak it across the goal line. Stig-Arne Bivall made an important save on a dangerous shot by Bror Mossberg in the 28th minute. 33 minutes into the game, Kent Stålman was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mullhyttan BF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Malmö FF the free kick. A collision led to Mullhyttan BF getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Kent Stålman hit a great ball. In the 34th minute Joacim Näfver shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jan-Olof Salqvist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Joacim Näfver sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee gave Malmö FF a penalty, 42 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Gilbert Frykberg, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Mullhyttan BF's Jan-Olof Salqvist. 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kent Stålman to make the kick off. Joacim Näfver could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 51st minute of the match, but Jan-Olof Salqvist made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Joacim Näfver managed to get in a good position for a shot. Malmö FF's supporters rose to their feet, but Joacim Näfver was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jan-Olof Salqvist breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Malmö FF's Stig-Arne Bivall played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kent Stålman in the 55th minute of play. Kent Stålman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Stig-Arne Bivall tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 69th minute, Uno Sundberg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 70th minute of the match Harry Arvidsson shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Stig-Arne Bivall showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Stig-Arne Bivall made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kent Stålman in the 72nd minute of play. 74 minutes had been played when some careless play by Malmö FF's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Harry Arvidsson was slow to take the kick. During this time Mullhyttan BF's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Harry Arvidsson got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Stig-Arne Bivall quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Jan-Olof Salqvist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tord Hansson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 79 minutes into the game, Joacim Näfver cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Jan-Olof Salqvist was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Mullhyttan BF's Jan-Olof Salqvist proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Mullhyttan BF from getting a goal against them. If Tord Hansson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Malmö FF had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
