In the 13th minute, Hans Gustavsson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Preben BoIS fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Preben BoIS's Hans Gustavsson got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hans Gustavsson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 24 minutes into the match, Preben BoIS's Hans Gustavsson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Harry Bock narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a rather tough play, VFB Stuttgart's Michael Jakobsson got a free kick in the 25th minute. In the 27th minute, Per-Åke Vallengren hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sixten Hylander's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Rune Lundkvist firmly grabbed it by the left post. If Jörn Sjöberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Jörn Sjöberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rune Lundkvist was relentless in the 40th minute of the game. Johnny Dahlberg's late challenge caught a Preben BoIS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Johnny Dahlberg helped the player get up and apologised. After 43 played minutes VFB Stuttgart got a freekick which was hit by Johnny Dahlberg. Preben BoIS's defense didn't have a chance, in the 46th minute, when Jörn Sjöberg scored to the left of an out of position Rune Lundkvist, making the score, 2-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When Per-Åke Vallengren fell near the penalty area in the 54th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Preben BoIS's protests and gave Per-Åke Vallengren a yellow card for diving instead. Per-Åke Vallengren hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. The supporters of Preben BoIS booed when VFB Stuttgart was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Georg Lundgren didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jörn Sjöberg in the 58th minute of play forced Preben BoIS's goalkeeper Rune Lundkvist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Sixten Hylander came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the VFB Stuttgart fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sixten Hylander couldn't finish the play. Rune Lundkvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jörn Sjöberg in the 78th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Preben BoIS's zone, Sixten Hylander stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rune Lundkvist came out of the goal and Sixten Hylander tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Johnny Dahlberg struck a weak shot in the 87th minute. Rune Lundkvist didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for VFB Stuttgart. 92 minutes into the match, VFB Stuttgart's goalkeeper Harry Bock had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Claes Hansson. 94 minutes into the match, VFB Stuttgart's goal looked a bit too open when Hans Gustavsson came free, but Harry Bock reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Claes Hansson got free with Harry Bock in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
