Henrik Grönlund showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Allan Hjortsberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. In the 42nd minute, Ingvar Hård hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Kurt Wickander fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 49th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hubert Morat having to interfere. After the first half Göteborg were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Knut Björck made a kick off. Patrick Smefeldt was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 55 minutes into the match. Henrik Grönlund had in the 56thth minute some difficulties stopping Birger Westerberg's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Allan Hjortsberg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Henrik Grönlund tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Bruzaholm's goalkeeper Henrik Grönlund, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Klas Ståhlberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hubert Morat was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hubert Morat took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Klas Ståhlberg, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 97 played minutes Göteborg got a freekick which was hit by Joel Strömberg.
