The supporters of Galatasaray booed when Västerås fotboll klubb was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robin Myr was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Tommy Igelström had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Henning Alefors received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Sten Backlund tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 44 minutes into the game, Galatasaray's Sten Gustafsson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Robin Myr made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sten Gustafsson stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Galatasaray's Tommy Igelström was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 52nd play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. After 58 played minutes Västerås fotboll klubb got a freekick which was hit by Henning Alefors. The crowd rose to their feet as Galatasaray's Tommy Igelström slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Robin Myr. That made the score 0-4 after 68 minutes of play. Västerås fotboll klubb's Robin Myr played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tommy Igelström in the 82nd minute of play. In the 83rd play minute Sten Gustafsson came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Robin Myr. 0-5. Tommy Igelström sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Robin Myr made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Sten Gustafsson sent off a good shot on target. In the 94th match minute, Västerås fotboll klubb was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kjell-Arne Wiman to maneuver through the defense. Galatasaray's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
