Galatasaray's Sten Backlund played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stor Kuk in the 9th minute of play. 12 minutes into the match, Sten Gustafsson notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Atletiska Bollklubben's Tim Nyman. Tim Nyman was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 15th minute, Holger Vidman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 19 minutes, Jonas Björkdahl managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atletiska Bollklubben's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jonas Björkdahl was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sten Backlund made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stor Kuk in the 21st minute of play. Holger Vidman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Sten Backlund tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sten Gustafsson struck a weak shot in the 25th minute. Tim Nyman didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Galatasaray. Tim Nyman made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sten Gustafsson in the 26th minute. Tommy Lingren kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Jonas Björkdahl's late challenge caught a Galatasaray's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jonas Björkdahl helped the player get up and apologised. The referee ignored Galatasaray's protests and gave Tommy Igelström a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Galatasaray's Tommy Igelström got a free kick in the 67th minute. The long shot by Gilbert Ekrot in the 68th minute really tested Sten Backlund's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Tommy Lingren stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Tim Nyman. 3-0. With a little luck, Galatasaray's Sten Backlund got control of the ball when Stor Kuk tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 93 played minutes Atletiska Bollklubben got a freekick which was hit by Bengt-Rune Kilstedt. In the 97th minute, Stor Kuk ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sten Backlund was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. For all the effort they put into the match, the Atletiska Bollklubben players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Galatasaray.
